even though it's mid-june, summer still isn't in full swing in NYC. so i've been doing a bit of beach time dreaming. i'll be heading out to our greenport house in july and august, and here are a few of my favorite resort wear items perfect for the beach.
i've been etsy perusing. found lots of purses. since i've self-imposed a purse buying ban on myself, i thought i'd post here instead! for shopping, for inspiration. it's a bit of a mix between handmade and vintage, i love them all. i just wish my closet would hold more purses.
also.....today, i'm excited to announce that i am a guest blogger over at whipup.net! go check it out...i wrote a tutorial on how to make this festive yarn pom pom garland. a pretty little DIY decoration for a party, a kid's room, or wherever you need a little bit of color.
a few of my favorite things happening on the internet this week. so, first, i saw this picture and literally wondered who drugged me in my sleep to take this photo of me, because i have never in my life been to south of the border. then i realized this is not me. it's rhiannon from liebemarlene vintage. in any case, i've become obsessed with her blog because 1) she's southern (ok, not really but she lives in the south now and could completely pass as a southern gal), 2) she has the amazing ability to pull off simple but completely enviable outfits in that effortless way that are completely inspiring, and 3) her blog invokes such a romantic and dreamy setting you just want to crawl in and live there. plus, she's quirky and puts together posts like, what she would wear to the best 1950s tourist traps.
photo from closetvisit
next, is closet visit. even though i admire sites like the selby, i rarely am drawn back to look at them. closet visits, is sort the same concept. just like it sounds, you get to see a glimpse into the closet (and life) of stylists, designers, editors and models. i keep coming back to this site though because it is just SO good. the clothes are what i consider something refreshing and stylish without being too designer-y or "on trend". and the photos are so vivid, fresh and enticing.
photo from milk teeths
and last, is milk teeths. i actually came across her etsy shop and started bookmarking everything i could find in it. i think partially because of her styling and that she alone makes everything seem so perfect. thinking, this girl should have a fashion blog, i moved along. a week later, i see a post on miss moss, raving about this blog, milk teeths. what a wonderful surprise!
recently i've come across some really amazing blogs (and some i've been following for quite a while) and thought it'd be great to share.
off the rack - this blog is a wonderful mix of fashion and a d.i.y. mentality. they have links to great and fashionable products, often featuring smaller shops, and the occassional amazing diy ideas.
fieldguided - after reading just a few posts by anabela, i decided that at some point we were separated at birth. i adore her style, and she loves cats, and she sews! she has the best d.i.y. tutorials (like this miu miu collar!) and is constantly sewing or fashioning new brilliant things. and of course, featuring her cat.
calivintage - erin runs this great style blog and she has the best fashion sense! i adore all of her perfect vintage or vintage-inspired outfits, and i'm constantly learning something new from her. from a new way to tie a headband like a turban, or where to find a cute vintage shoes or purse, i'm constantly amazed.
make something - this blog is such a source of inspiration. i love all of her projects, and am amazed at all of her fabrics she uses. just reading through her wish list makes me want to run out and sew something immediately.
my friends gina and jason have just opened up a new shop, Land-Rich, with beautiful classic items inspired by raw nature.
the current edition has four amazing ornaments filled with simple, raw elements. my favorites are the reindeer moss (essential food for reindeer) and the tallow bulbs (small versions are just $10!). just in time for the holidays!
i recently came across some wonderful vintage finds, and created some necklaces featuring them as charms. i love the mix of the gold-tone brassy colored charms mixed with the darker patina chains. now available in the shop.
and second....a night or so ago, as i was perusing etsy, i joined a virtual labs session waaay too late, but ended up in a nice conversation with a few other etsy sellers. one of them had the lovliest jewelry. i've been really into knots recently and absolutely loved this love knot ring by meganlimjewelry. it's so intricate and i love how each one is always a little different.
megan also has a nice selection of hair accessories and other statement rings as well. and, megan herself is such a sweet person!
