so, i sat there knitting this thing (more like casting on) while the ebay countdown happened, telling myself who needs that one when you'll have this nice handknit one. you don't have to win. of course, i won the blanket, and now i can't stop knitting this one...so i'm going to have a knit replica of a hudson blanket. how does this happen??
i came across a baby blanket from purl soho that they made replicating the multicolored hudson bay blanket, and thought i'd try a regular sized one, in just black and tan. the only downside....it's garter stitch. making a full sized blanket in garter stitch is mind-numbing. however, i never knew i could knit so fast. and it's really easy to do while i do other things (watch tv, ride trains) so i'm not really complaining too much. i was a little scared thinking it would look sort of beginner-ish (associate garter stitch with new knitters) but I kinda like it's basic-ness. the stripes help too.
i plan to finish this one. i promise.

I actually really like the contrast between the black and the beige and the simple garter stitch. I think it will look really nice once finished! I love to see a photo of the inspiration for your crochet blanket and the hudson blanket!
As a fellow knitter, sometimes it's nice to have that instant gratification (well sort of, it is after all a blanket) of a simple knit stich. Yes it's mindless but we all need some mindless sometimes. It's lovely. Yea to you for committing to finishing.
A garter stitch blanket?! You're crazy! I wont blame you if you give this one up. ;) Although it will be gorgeous when you're done, I love the colors! Goodluck!

I think you're going to be awfully sick of that blanket when (she says in an affirming tone) you get it finished. You won't be able to take it with you anywhere for much longer so it will become a home-only project. And when your Hudson's Bay Company blanket comes and you put its glorious colours next to these ones, will you still have the motivation to finish it?
Although, Christmas is only eleven months from tomorrow - maybe it can be a gift for someone!
I wouldn't have mentionned this if you hadn't won - I have an HBC blanket and you are in for some serious warm!
haha, i know, linda! luckily my hudson blanket came and i've been happily sitting underneath it, knitting it's twin. for now, at least. 5 out of 25 skeins down...i'm doing it. but you're right, i'm probably going to be so sick of it in the end.
I've only started knitting, but I think I'm developing this sickness. And seeing your blanket means I'm going to want to knit it too! It's very pretty so far...best of luck on finishing :)
Hooray for getting the hudson blanket! and I love this color combo :) Garter stitch IS really nice to have on hand when doing other things- i've promised myself only to bring garter/stockinette projects to my knitting group since once I get talking, I always start messing up my cables and lace ;)
