quilt collaboration: me and my grandma

after my quilting obsession started, i visited my grandma to ask her some basic quilting questions. she mentioned that she had started a quilt a few years ago, finished piecing together the front, but never sandwiched it all together. the only thing left is to quilt the thing.

so, i figured after i had my first quilt done and under my belt (more to come on that later....it's a gift so can't ruin any surprises!) i decided i'd take on this quilt of my grandma's and finish it for her. i love that this is a decades long collaboration between me and her. we both are crafty (we both crochet, and now quilt) and have made countless gifts for one another, but we've never actually made something together.

this thing is gorgeous! all of the tiny pieces again, meticulously pieced together, by my grandma. the problem is that i don't have an available piece of floor (not to mention table space) big enough to lay this thing out to properly sandwich and pin it together!

my plans for this are to use the 'baptist fan' quilting pattern...since i noticed that almost all of my grandma's original quilts used this design. trying to keep it as original as possible here. hopefully i'll have it all done by my next visit to savannah in december to show her.

It is amazing to see so many different squares on the quilt. I can only imagine the kind of space needed to make a quilt!!! ~Val
